Background

He joined the company in April 1967 and came up through programming, becoming head of the Programming and Production Bureau in the Programming and Production Division in June 1999. He became Managing Director in June 2001 and Senior Managing Director in June 2006, then left in June 2007 to become Representative Director and President of Okayama Broadcasting, moving in July 2015 to Representative Director and President of BS Fuji. He returned to the parent as a Director of Fuji Television Network in June 2016 and became President the following year.

Selection

In June 2017 he became Representative Director and President, succeeding Shuji Kano, who moved to Representative Director and Chairman the same month. In the fiscal year before he took office, ended March 2017, consolidated revenue was ¥654.0 billion and operating income ¥22.3 billion, operating income having fallen for two straight years. He became President on returning to the parent ten years after leaving as Senior Managing Director to run Okayama Broadcasting in 2007.

Initiatives

Over his two years in office, consolidated operating income was ¥25.3 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2018 and ¥34.7 billion in FY ended March 2019, 1.5 times the ¥22.3 billion of the year before he took office. Revenue also grew from ¥646.5 billion to ¥669.2 billion. Net income was roughly flat at ¥25.0 billion and ¥23.6 billion. In June 2019 he stepped down as President and became Representative Director and Chairman of Fuji Television Network.
