Background

A career employee, he joined Denka in April 1982. He became an Executive Officer in April 2013, Managing Executive Officer in April 2017, a Director in June 2019 and Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2020, and Representative Director and President in April 2021. It was 39 years from joining to the presidency. The officer section of the annual securities report lists his titles only from Executive Officer onward, so his earlier assignments cannot be traced from it.

Selection

In April 2021 he became President, succeeding Manabu Yamamoto. The promotion came the year after he became Senior Managing Executive Officer. In the fiscal year ended March 2021, the year before he took office, consolidated sales fell to ¥354.3 billion from ¥380.8 billion the year before, but operating income rose from ¥31.6 billion to ¥34.7 billion. Trust banks, mutual aid associations and life insurers dominate the top of the shareholder list, with no operating company holding a controlling stake.

Initiatives

In 2022 he decided on a withdrawal from the cement business, transferring the sales operations to Taiheiyo Cement. He set out the long-term management plan Mission2030 and announced a reshaping of the business portfolio. Consolidated sales rose from ¥354.3 billion the year before he took office to ¥407.5 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2023, while operating income shrank from ¥40.1 billion in FY ended March 2022 to ¥14.4 billion in FY ended March 2025, and in FY ended March 2025, the year he stepped down, the company posted a net loss of ¥12.3 billion.
