Background
He joined Honshu Paper in April 1975. Because Oji Paper merged with Honshu Paper in October 1996, he spent the latter half of his career at the merged Oji Paper. He became an Executive Officer in June 2006, Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2009 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in April 2012, overseeing forest resources and energy as President of the Resources and Environment Business Company.

In January 2015 he succeeded Kiyotaka Shindo as President. In the FY ended March 2014, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,332.5 billion and operating income ¥62.0 billion, up from ¥52.4 billion the year before. Nine months before taking office he had become President of the Resources and Environment Business Company as Representative Director and Executive Vice President, and he appears to have been chosen to lead a reshuffle placing wood and energy as sources of earnings.
Initiatives
Over his four-plus years, consolidated net sales grew from ¥1,347.2 billion in the FY ended March 2015 to ¥1,550.9 billion in the FY ended March 2019. Consolidated operating income rose 2.4 times from ¥46.7 billion to ¥110.2 billion over the same period, and net income from ¥15.5 billion to ¥51.9 billion. The workforce grew by 2,641, from 33,668 to 36,309. In April 2019 he moved to Representative Director and Chairman, and Masatoshi Kaku succeeded him as President.
