Background

He joined Oji Paper in April 1984, and by his own account began working in corporate planning around 2000. He became Director and Managing Group Executive Committee Member in June 2015 and Director and Senior Managing Group Executive Committee Member in April 2021. Overseas he served as chairman of the company overseeing the Oceania business, gaining experience in both international operations and head office functions.

Advocating business operations rooted in forest resources, he positioned plastic-alternative products and environmentally friendly goods as a pillar next to paper. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥1,470.1 billion in the year before he took office to ¥1,849.2 billion in the FY ended March 2025, while operating income shrank from ¥120.1 billion to ¥67.7 billion. The consolidated workforce grew from 35,608 in the FY ended March 2022 to 38,322 in the FY ended March 2024.
