Background

He founded Koei in July 1978 and served as its Representative Director and President. In March 1989 he also became Representative Director and President of Kou Yu. He became Representative Director and Chairman of Koei in April 1999, Director and Chief Senior Advisor in June 2001 and Founder, Director and Chief Senior Advisor in June 2005. As founder he had capital behind him: among major shareholders at the end of March 2010, Kou Yu held 33.94% and he himself 2.07%.

Selection

In November 2010 he succeeded Kenji Matsubara as Representative Director and President of the holding company. The holding company had been launched in April 2009 through the business integration of Koei and Tecmo. In the FY ended March 2010, the year before he took office, sales were ¥34.5 billion and operating income ¥600 million, an operating margin below 2%. A year and a half after the integration, the founder took personal command of the company again.

Initiatives

Consolidated results grew from sales of ¥35.5 billion and operating income of ¥5.8 billion in the FY ended March 2012 to sales of ¥83.2 billion and operating income of ¥32.1 billion in the FY ended March 2025, his final year. Ordinary income that year was ¥50.0 billion, ¥17.9 billion above operating income. In April 2015 he also became Representative Director and Chairman (CEO) of the operating company Koei Tecmo Games. In June 2025 he handed the presidency to Hisashi Koinuma and moved to Representative Director, Chairman and Chair of the Board.
