Background

He joined Hitachi in April 1986 and moved to Oracle Japan in August 1997. He joined Koei in December 2001, became Representative Director and President of ErgoSoft in March 2007 and Representative Director, Executive Officer and President of Koei in June that year. He also served as President and COO of overseas subsidiaries such as KOEI Corporation (US), KOEI Ltd. (UK) and KOEI ENTERTAINMENT SINGAPORE, coming up through software technology and overseas business rather than game production.

Selection

In April 2009 he became Representative Director and President of Koei Tecmo Holdings, established through the business integration of Koei and Tecmo. From the Tecmo side, Yasuharu Kakihara, who had become a corporate auditor of Tecmo in June 2001 and its Representative Director and Chairman in March 2007, became Representative Director and Chairman, filling the top posts with one person from each former company. Koei founder Yoichi Erikawa became Director and Chief Senior Advisor and Keiko Erikawa Director and Honorary Chairman. In the FY ended March 2010, Yoichi Erikawa held 1,864 thousand shares, Keiko Erikawa 1,806 thousand and Kakihara 300 thousand, while Matsubara held none.

Initiatives

In the FY ended March 2010, the first year of the integration, consolidated net sales were ¥34.5 billion, operating income ¥600 million and net income ¥2.6 billion. In April 2010 he also became Representative Director and President of the operating company Koei Tecmo Games, bringing the development and sales of the former Koei and Tecmo into one company. At the end of that period, the largest shareholder was Kou Yu, with 33.94%, where Yoichi Erikawa was Representative Director and President and Keiko Erikawa Representative Director and Senior Managing Director. In the FY ended March 2011, the integration's second year, consolidated net sales were ¥32.1 billion and operating income ¥3.3 billion, up ¥2.7 billion from the year before.
