Background

He started the business in April 1997 and in May of that year opened the website Kakaku.com, launching a price information service. He set up Core Price Ltd. as its operating entity seven months later, in December 1997, at age 24. The site came first and the legal entity followed.

Initiatives

In December 1999 he moved the head office to Taito Ward, Tokyo, and in May 2000 converted Core Price Ltd. into a joint-stock company and renamed it Kakaku.com, Inc. In March 2001 he set up a new Core Price Ltd. (now Kakaku.com Insurance) as a wholly owned subsidiary. He reorganized an operation that began as a single limited company into a joint-stock company with a subsidiary. Then in 2001, at age 28, he sold the business to the investment company ICP for about ¥2.5 billion and left management.
