Background

He joined Nippon Meat Packers in April 1976, moved to Nippon Food in April 1997, and advanced there to Director in May of that year, Representative Director and Managing Director in May 1999, and Representative Director in April 2002. He then served as Representative Director and Senior Managing Director of Hoko from June 2003 and as its Representative Director and President from June 2004. He became an executive officer of the parent company in April 2011, 35 years after joining. His career brought him back to the parent's management after 14 years leading group companies.

In April 2015 he succeeded Noboru Takezoe as president. In the fiscal year ended March 2015, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,199.9 billion and operating income ¥43.8 billion, both the highest of the previous five years. He was promoted one year after becoming Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2014. The appointment appears intended to apply his experience leading two subsidiaries to managing the parent.

Initiatives

During his tenure, consolidated net sales fell from ¥1,229.3 billion in the FY ended March 2016 to ¥1,202.2 billion in the FY ended March 2017, but operating income grew from ¥35.3 billion to ¥53.8 billion and net income from ¥21.7 billion to ¥35.0 billion. Headcount reached 16,488 in the FY ended March 2016, up 788 from the previous year. He stepped down as president in January 2018 after about three years.
