Background

After working at Mobile Production from February 2003 and at Index from March 2005, he joined mixi in June 2008. He became product owner in the product development department in August 2012 and producer of Monst Studio in November 2013, then head of that studio in April 2014, an Executive Officer that November and a Director in June 2015. He headed XFLAG Studio from August 2015 and the XFLAG business division from April 2017, becoming President ten years after joining.

Selection

In June 2018 he succeeded Hiroki Morita as Representative Director and President. In the fiscal year ended March 2018, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥189.1 billion and operating profit ¥72.4 billion, down for two straight years from ¥208.8 billion and ¥95.0 billion in FY ended March 2016. Koki Kimura had been producer of Monst Studio, which ran the flagship game, since November 2013, became a Director in June 2015 and head of the XFLAG business division in April 2017. The appointment put the person who had led the core business as it began to shrink directly into the presidency.

Initiatives

In his first year, FY ended March 2019, consolidated net sales were ¥144.0 billion and operating profit ¥41.0 billion, and in FY ended March 2020 ¥112.2 billion and ¥17.1 billion, so over two years sales fell 40% and operating profit nearly 80%. Sales returned to growth from FY ended March 2021, and in FY ended March 2026 net sales were ¥171.4 billion, operating profit ¥22.3 billion and net income ¥17.3 billion. In 2025 the company acquired Australia's PointsBet, entering sports betting in earnest and reducing its reliance on games.
