Background

He joined Hokkaido Electric Power in April 1983 and became Executive Officer and Superintendent of the Tomato-Atsuma Power Station in July 2017. He advanced to Managing Executive Officer and General Manager of the Thermal Power Department in July 2019, and to Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2021. Moving from head of the Tomato-Atsuma Power Station to head of the Thermal Power Department, he reached the board by way of the thermal power front line.

In June 2023 he succeeded Yutaka Fujii as Representative Director and President. In the fiscal year ended March 2023, the year before he took over, the company posted an operating loss of ¥22.5 billion and a net loss of ¥22.2 billion on consolidated net sales of ¥888.9 billion, swinging into the red from operating income of ¥25.0 billion the previous year. He had joined the board only in June 2021, reaching the presidency in two years. On taking office he also became President and Executive Officer and General Manager of the Nuclear Power Promotion Division, inheriting from his predecessor the arrangement that placed nuclear power directly under the president.

Initiatives

In his first fiscal year, ended March 2024, consolidated net sales were ¥953.8 billion and operating income ¥101.2 billion, a return to profit from the previous year's operating loss of ¥22.5 billion. In the FY ended March 2025 net sales were ¥902.1 billion and operating income ¥75.8 billion, and in the FY ended March 2026 net sales were ¥856.0 billion and operating income ¥73.2 billion, keeping operating income in the ¥70 billion range even as sales declined. In three years in office, the only decision traceable in the annual securities reports is his concurrent role as head of the Nuclear Power Promotion Division.
