Background
He joined Kansai Electric Power in April 1972. He joined the board in June 2005, 33 years after joining the company. He rose to Managing Director in June 2006 and Executive Vice President in June 2009, becoming President a year later. It took him five years from joining the executive ranks to the presidency, with one year as Executive Vice President. After stepping down he moved to Chairman in June 2016.

In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2010, consolidated revenue was ¥2,606.5 billion, operating profit ¥227.7 billion and net income ¥127.1 billion, a return to profit from an ordinary loss of ¥12.6 billion and a net loss of ¥8.7 billion the previous year. At the time of his appointment the City of Osaka was the largest shareholder with 8.85% and the City of Kobe fourth with 2.89%, so local governments ranked near the top.
Initiatives
Four of his six years in office ended in consolidated losses. The company posted an operating loss of ¥229.4 billion and a net loss of ¥242.2 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2012, widening to an operating loss of ¥314.0 billion and a net loss of ¥243.4 billion in the FY ended March 2013. Net losses of ¥97.4 billion and ¥148.3 billion continued in the FY ended March 2014 and FY ended March 2015. Revenue grew from ¥2,769.7 billion in the FY ended March 2011 to ¥3,245.9 billion in the FY ended March 2016, when the company returned to the black with operating profit of ¥256.7 billion and net income of ¥140.8 billion.
