Background

He joined Kansai Electric Power in April 1988. He became an Executive Officer in June 2018, 30 years after joining. He rose to Managing Executive Officer in October 2019 and Director and Representative Executive Officer and Executive Vice President in June 2021, becoming President one year after becoming Executive Vice President. His appointment after four years as an executive was quicker than that of his predecessor Takashi Morimoto, who served three years and nine months as Executive Vice President.

In June 2022 he succeeded Takashi Morimoto as President. His predecessor was replaced after two years and three months, making this the second successive promotion of a career Executive Vice President since March 2020. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2022, consolidated revenue was ¥2,851.8 billion and operating profit ¥99.3 billion, with operating profit having fallen to less than half of the ¥207.0 billion of two years earlier.

Initiatives

In his first year, the fiscal year ended March 2023, revenue grew by ¥1.1 trillion to ¥3,951.8 billion, while the company posted a consolidated operating loss of ¥52.1 billion. In the following FY ended March 2024 it turned to operating profit of ¥728.9 billion and net income of ¥441.8 billion, and in the FY ended March 2025 it still secured operating profit of ¥468.9 billion and net income of ¥420.3 billion. In the FY ended March 2026 revenue was ¥4,056.6 billion, operating profit ¥437.6 billion and net income ¥380.1 billion. He has indicated a policy of directing funds raised through a capital increase to the data center business.
