Background
A figure in aviation since before the war, he served as a Corporate Auditor of Japan Air Transport from April 1936 and as an auditor of Dai Nippon Airways from November 1938. He became President of NGK Spark Plug in May 1944, Chairman in August 1951, President again in November 1955 and Chairman in November 1961. He was listed as a non-executive director of All Nippon Airways from its founding in December 1952, and for the 15 years before becoming President he did not serve full time.
Selection
He succeeded Kaheita Okazaki as President in April 1967. In the fiscal year ended March 1967, just before his appointment, the company posted an ordinary loss of ¥1.8 billion and a net loss of ¥1.7 billion, reversing from ordinary profit of ¥0.4 billion the previous year. A Japanese corporate directory lists Morimura as President in two editions, 1967 and 1968. The appointment installed as full-time President, in a loss-making year, someone who had watched the company from outside as a non-executive director for 15 years since its founding.
Initiatives
His tenure lasted about a year. In the fiscal year ended March 1968 the company posted revenue of ¥21.3 billion, ordinary profit of ¥1.2 billion and net income of ¥1.2 billion, recovering from the previous year's loss. In May 1967 it brought in Tetsuo Oba, head of flight operations at Japan Airlines, as Executive Vice President, and Oba took over as President in 1968.
