Selection

In June 2000 he succeeded Hiromichi Fujita, who had been President for nine years, as Representative Director and President. It took him 38 years from joining to become President, the same as his predecessor. In the fiscal year ended March 2000, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,237.0 billion and net income ¥30.4 billion, the second straight year below the ¥1,284.1 billion of the FY ended March 1998. The appointment appears to have put a sales man in the top post at a time when sales were not growing.

Initiatives

Over his ten years in office, consolidated net sales grew by ¥269.7 billion, from ¥1,237.0 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2000 to ¥1,506.7 billion in the FY ended March 2010. They reached ¥1,670.3 billion in the FY ended March 2008, but in the FY ended March 2009 operating income fell to ¥29.2 billion and the company posted a net loss of ¥7.7 billion. Consolidated employees increased by 16,040, from 31,610 in the FY ended March 2002 to 47,650 in the FY ended March 2010. In June 2010 he handed the presidency to Shingo Kaneko.
