Background

He joined Hon Hai Precision Industry in July 2001 and from April 2010 handled management administration at Foxconn Slovakia. He moved to Sakai Display Products as a corporate planning manager in June 2012, became President of Sharp Thai in February 2017 and Managing Officer and deputy representative for ASEAN in November 2019. He advanced to Managing Executive Officer in June 2020 and Vice Chairman, Executive Officer and CEO in April 2022. He rose to Sharp's executive ranks by leading local subsidiaries in Southeast Asia rather than at the Japanese head office.

Selection

In June 2022 he succeeded Katsuaki Nomura as President, Executive Officer and CEO. Having already become Vice Chairman, Executive Officer and CEO in April that year, he added the presidency two months later while keeping the CEO role. In the fiscal year ended March 2022, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥2,495.5 billion, operating income ¥84.7 billion and ordinary income ¥115.0 billion, all above the previous year. The appointment appears to have put in place an executive from Hon Hai who had led the Southeast Asian business.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended March 2023, his first year, consolidated net sales of ¥2,548.1 billion exceeded the previous year, yet the company posted an operating loss of ¥25.7 billion and a net loss of ¥260.8 billion. In the FY ended March 2024 net sales fell to ¥2,321.9 billion, with an operating loss of ¥20.3 billion and a net loss of ¥149.9 billion, a second straight year in the red. Consolidated employees fell by 4,496, from 47,941 in the FY ended March 2022 to 43,445 in the FY ended March 2024. In 2024, the year he stepped down, he decided with his successor Masahiro Okitsu on the withdrawal from large LCD panels.
