Background
He joined Sharp in April 1984. In October 2014 he became head of European marketing and President of Sharp Electronics (Europe) Limited, then European representative in September 2016 and Americas representative and Chairman of Sharp Electronics Corporation in August 2017. From October 2021 he led the digital imaging business and then the smart business solutions business as head of business groups, becoming Managing Executive Officer in June 2024 and Senior Managing Executive Officer and CBDO in April 2025.
Selection
In April 2026 he succeeded Masahiro Okitsu as President, Executive Officer and CEO. Okitsu moved to Representative Director and Vice Chairman after one year and ten months in office. In the fiscal year ended March 2026, before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,892.8 billion, operating income ¥48.6 billion and net income ¥47.4 billion, so the company remained profitable. On the other hand, the transfer of the Kameyama No. 2 plant to Hon Hai fell through, and ¥13,730 million in production shutdown costs were booked. The appointment appears to have entrusted the cleanup after the withdrawal and the creation of new revenue sources to Kawamura, who had been Senior Managing Executive Officer and CBDO.
Initiatives
In April 2026, right after he took office, the company absorbed Sharp Display Solutions, the wholly owned subsidiary handling video display equipment. Sharp Display Technology, the display device business, is also scheduled to be absorbed in October 2026. The aim appears to be bringing operating companies into the parent to speed up decision-making. He was elected a Director at the June 2026 shareholders' meeting with 98.56% approval. Having been in office less than half a year, the results of his measures remain to be confirmed in future financial results.
