Background
A career employee, he joined OMRON in April 1984. He became Executive Officer in June 2008 and at the same time Representative Director and President of the subsidiary OMRON Healthcare. He advanced to Managing Executive Officer in June 2010 and, the next year in June 2011, became Representative Director and President of the parent company, 27 years after joining and three years after becoming Executive Officer.
Selection
In June 2011 he succeeded Hisao Sakuta as Representative Director and President. Rather than stepping up after long service as a managing or senior managing director, he was picked from the rank of Managing Executive Officer. In the fiscal year ended March 2011, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥617.8 billion and operating income ¥41.7 billion, a recovery achieved in two years from the FY ended March 2009, when the company posted an operating loss of ¥39.1 billion and a net loss of ¥29.1 billion. He became President and CEO in June 2013.
Initiatives
In 2015 the company acquired Adept Technology of the US, entering the factory automation robot business in earnest. It sold its automotive and ATM businesses, and in 2022 made the medical data company JMDC a subsidiary. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥617.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2011, the year before he took office, to ¥876.0 billion in the FY ended March 2023, his final year, and operating income from ¥41.7 billion to ¥98.4 billion.
