Background

Born in Kyoto in 1932, he graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at Kyoto University in March 1956 and joined Tateishi Electric that month. He became a Director in January 1959, three years after joining, and Executive Vice President in September 1962. Compared with Yoshio Tateishi, who joined in 1963 and became a Director in May 1973, his path to the board was extremely short. He became head of the R&D Headquarters in April 1975, took charge of control equipment from August 1976, and became Representative Director in July 1977.

Education: Kyoto University, Faculty of Engineering, Electrical Engineering (1956)

Selection

In June 1979 Kazuma Tateishi, President for 31 years since the incorporation, withdrew to Representative Director and Chairman, and Takao succeeded him as Representative Director and President. The promotion came after 17 years as Executive Vice President from September 1962. He had become Representative Director in July 1977, two years before becoming President. Just before, results had recovered from an ordinary loss of ¥1.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1976 to non-consolidated net sales of ¥101.1 billion and ordinary income of ¥6.1 billion in the FY ended March 1979.

Initiatives

Non-consolidated net sales grew from ¥101.1 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1979, the year before he took office, to ¥125.1 billion in the FY ended March 1980 and ¥149.0 billion in the FY ended March 1981. Over the same three years ordinary income rose from ¥6.1 billion to ¥11.7 billion and ¥17.9 billion, and net income from ¥2.7 billion to ¥5.0 billion and ¥8.3 billion. Founder Kazuma Tateishi stayed on as Representative Director and Chairman and appears on the 1981 board list. When Takao stepped down as President cannot be confirmed from the materials at hand as of September 2026.
