Background
He joined the company in 1975 and in April 2006, as Executive Officer and Senior Vice President, took charge of production systems. From April 2008, as Executive Officer and Senior Vice President of a higher grade, he handled the semiconductor and device business, and in April 2010 became Representative Executive Officer and President. He was promoted from overseeing the semiconductor and device business after commodity memory had been moved out, that is, power semiconductors and high-frequency and optical devices.

In April 2010 he succeeded Setsuhiro Shimomura as Representative Executive Officer and President. In the fiscal year ended March 2010, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥3,353.2 billion and operating income ¥94.3 billion, down from ¥4,049.8 billion and ¥267.2 billion in FY ended March 2008. He rose to president directly from senior executive officer without serving as Executive Vice President, and the task of rebuilding sales channels as demand returned passed to the executive in charge of the device business.
Initiatives
Starting with India in September 2010, the company set up general sales companies in Vietnam in June 2011, Brazil in September 2012, Indonesia that December and Turkey in January 2013. Although income before taxes fell to ¥65.1 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2013, in FY ended March 2014 consolidated net sales were ¥4,054.3 billion and income before taxes ¥249.0 billion; compared with net sales of ¥3,353.2 billion and operating income of ¥94.3 billion in the year before he took office, sales were up 21%.
