Background

He joined Daifuku in April 1971, became a Director in June 1998, and went to North America as President of Daifuku America Corporation in April 2000. In April 2004, as Representative Director and Senior Managing Director, he oversaw administration and overseas operations while also serving as President of Daifuku Canada Inc. He became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in April 2006, head of the AFA business and General Manager of the AFA Division in April 2007, and Chairman of Jervis B. Webb of the U.S. in December that year.

Selection

In April 2008 he succeeded Katsumi Takeuchi as Representative Director and President, also overseeing the Webb business. He had become Chairman of Jervis B. Webb four months earlier, so the man at the center of the acquisition that marked the company's entry into airport baggage handling systems went straight on to become president. On the same executive roster, Akio Tanaka had joined in 1973 and become a Director in June 2006, and Mikio Inohara had joined in 1969 and become a Director in June 2005, whereas Hojo, who joined in 1971, had reached the board in June 1998.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended March 2010, his second year, consolidated net sales fell from ¥242.2 billion to ¥154.2 billion and operating income from ¥15.0 billion to ¥0.1 billion. He personally took on the chairmanship of Daifuku Webb Holding Company in January 2011, oversight of production and service as President and Executive Officer in April 2012, and the North America regional supervision in April 2014. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥202.3 billion in FY ended March 2013 to ¥404.9 billion in FY ended March 2018, his final year, and operating income from ¥8.0 billion to ¥39.9 billion.
