Background

He joined the company in April 1983 and became an Executive Officer 29 years later, in April 2012. He advanced to Managing Executive Officer in April 2014 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2015, becoming president three years after joining the board. He became Representative Director and President in April 2018 and Representative Director and Chairman in January 2026. His time as an executive was limited to the six years before taking office; the 29 years before that were spent in the field.

Selection

In April 2018 he succeeded Masaki Hojo as president, three years after becoming Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2015. As of the fiscal year ended March 2015, the major shareholders were trust banks led by The Master Trust Bank of Japan at 5.18%, followed by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation at 3.59%, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance at 3.47% and Nippon Life Insurance at 2.82%, with all of the top ten below 6%. The change appears to have followed the internal pecking order rather than the wishes of any particular shareholder.

Initiatives

During his tenure, consolidated net sales grew from ¥512.3 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2022 to ¥611.5 billion in FY ended March 2024, and operating income from ¥50.3 billion to ¥62.1 billion. In the latter part of his term the company changed its fiscal year-end from March to December, making FY ended December 2024 a transition period. In FY ended December 2025, the first full year after the change, net sales were ¥660.7 billion and operating income ¥100.8 billion, an operating margin above 15%. In January 2026 he stepped back to Representative Director and Chairman and handed over to Tomoaki Terai.
