Background
He joined the company in April 1987, became an Executive Officer in April 2003, Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2009, and Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2011. Founder Hiromasa Ezoe resigned as President the year after he joined, making him part of the generation that spent the post-scandal rebuilding years as employees. He became President in his 25th year with the company.
Selection
In April 2012, in the first change of president in nine years, he succeeded Hitoshi Kashiwagi as the company's fifth president. At the results announcement in May, right after taking office, he set goals of becoming number one in the HR business and reaching a 50% overseas revenue ratio around 2020, and at the June shareholders' meeting he announced the intention to list.
Initiatives
In October 2012 the company moved to a holding company structure through a corporate split and changed its name to Recruit Holdings. That same month it acquired 100% of the shares of Indeed, the U.S. job search site. On October 16, 2014 it listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closing at ¥3,330 against an offering price of ¥3,100. After listing it went on to acquire USG People in June 2016 and Glassdoor in June 2018, and in April 2018 reorganized its businesses into three: HR Technology, Media & Solutions, and Staffing.
