Background
He joined the company in April 1999 and in 2012, at 36 the youngest ever at the time, became an Executive Officer and led the acquisition of Indeed in the United States. He had come to see the limits of the paid-listing model in which salespeople gathered job ads. After the acquisition he moved to Austin, Texas; his TOEIC score at the time was 400 and he could barely hold an English conversation, yet a year later he became Indeed's CEO.
Selection
In April 2021 he succeeded Masumi Minegishi as President and CEO, with Minegishi moving to Representative Director, Chairman and chair of the board. In the fiscal year before he took over, ended March 2021, revenue was ¥2,269.3 billion and operating profit ¥162.8 billion, both below the prior year. In the pandemic-era hiring market, job postings, mainly in Europe and the United States, were about 20% above pre-pandemic levels, yet many companies could not hire the people they needed.
Initiatives
Managing from the United States, he identified as a problem the fact that about 90% of the billions of applications made each year never hear back from employers. In January 2024 the company began the nationwide rollout of Indeed PLUS, a system that automatically distributes job ads to the most suitable job sites according to hiring requirements, making it possible to reach up to 70% of users of Japan's major job sites. From fiscal 2025, the domestic HR business is being merged into the same business segment as Indeed.
