Background
He joined Takeda Pharmaceutical in April 1984 and spent 34 years there. He served as President of the Healthcare Company from October 2009 and President of Takeda Consumer Healthcare from April 2017, leading the division handling over-the-counter drugs. He left Takeda in June 2018 and joined Rohto Pharmaceutical as a strategic adviser in January 2019. He was an outsider who had built his career in the consumer business of a major drugmaker.

In June 2019 he became President, succeeding Toshiaki Yoshino. He was appointed half a year after being brought in as a strategic adviser in January of that year. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥183.5 billion, operating income ¥20.8 billion and net income ¥9.7 billion, continuing a run of higher sales and profit. Rather than promoting from within, the company brought in from outside a person who had led the consumer business at Takeda Pharmaceutical.
Initiatives
In the fiscal year ended March 2020, his first year, consolidated net sales were ¥188.3 billion and operating income ¥23.1 billion, with net income rising to ¥15.4 billion. In FY ended March 2021 sales fell to ¥181.2 billion but operating income held at ¥23.0 billion, and from FY ended March 2022 sales kept growing, to ¥199.6 billion, ¥238.6 billion and ¥270.8 billion. In FY ended March 2025, the year he stepped down, net sales were ¥308.6 billion and operating income ¥38.9 billion, 1.6 times and 1.7 times his first year, respectively. In August 2021 he also became Representative Director and Chairman of Amato Pharmaceutical.
