Background
He joined Sumitomo Corporation in April 1998 and in November 2000 was seconded to MonotaRO as systems team manager. He moved to Rakuten in May 2006 and became head of the marketing team in the book media division that November. He joined MonotaRO in April 2007 as head of marketing and became Executive Officer in March 2008. After supporting the founding period on secondment, he returned as an employee by way of an e-commerce company.
Selection
In January 2013 he succeeded Kinya Seto as Director, Representative Executive Officer and President. He was promoted from Executive Officer and head of marketing, five years and nine months after joining MonotaRO. In the fiscal year ended December 2012, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥28.7 billion and operating income ¥2.9 billion. Someone who had worked through the founding period on secondment went on to take over the presidency.
Initiatives
Over his 11 years in office consolidated net sales grew from ¥34.6 billion in the FY ended December 2013 to ¥254.3 billion in the FY ended December 2023, and operating income from ¥3.9 billion to ¥31.3 billion. The annual securities report for the FY ended December 2020 lists local subsidiaries in South Korea and Indonesia among consolidated subsidiaries, as the company carried its domestic mail-order model for indirect materials overseas. In January 2024 he handed the presidency to Sakuya Tamura and became Director, Representative Executive Officer and Chairman.
