Background

He joined Sumitomo Corporation in April 1983 and became specialty steel products manager at Sumitomo Corporation of America in July 1990. He served as Executive Vice President of Precision Bar Service from July 1992 and as President of Iron Dynamics Process International from May 1997. He returned to Sumitomo Corporation in September 1999 as head of the e-commerce team in the first steel business planning department. He joined the founding of the company in October 2000 as a director.

Education: University of Tokyo, Faculty of Economics (1983)
Education: Dartmouth College, MBA (1994)

Selection

He was the first president. He joined the founding of the company as a director in October 2000 and became Representative Director and President eight months later, in June 2001. Even at the end of the FY ended December 2006, after the listing, two companies, Grainger International with 38.34% and Sumitomo Corporation with 30.93%, held 69% of the shares, and his own stake was 0.65%. The two investors appear to have installed as president the hands-on manager who had launched the business.

Initiatives

In 2006 the company dropped "Sumisho" and "Grainger" from its name and listed on the TSE Mothers market. Non-consolidated net sales grew from ¥9.2 billion in the FY ended December 2006 to ¥22.2 billion in the FY ended December 2011, his final year, and operating income from ¥0.5 billion to ¥2.0 billion. In March 2012 he stepped back to Director, Representative Executive Officer and Chairman, and Masaya Suzuki became his successor.
