Background

He joined Kobe Bussan in April 2009, became head of the STB production division in April 2010 and a director in January 2011. In the FY ended October 2006, three years before he joined, he was already listed among major shareholders with 4.55%, after founder Shoji Numata's 53.44%. As of January 2026 he held 3,796,000 shares, orders of magnitude more than other officers, whose holdings ranged from 400 to 47,900 shares. His appointment appears to have been that of a founding-family member who held capital even before joining.

Education: Kyoto Pharmaceutical University, Graduate School, Master's Program (2005)

Selection

In February 2012 he succeeded Shoji Numata as Representative Director and President. Born in November 1980, he was 31 when he took office. It took only one year and nine months from joining in April 2009 to become a director, and two years and ten months to become president. Representative Director and Executive Vice President Yasuhiro Tanaka took six years and three months from joining in October 2001 to become a director, and Director Satoshi Nishida six years and six months. As a founding-family succession, it appears to have moved at a pace separate from internal promotion.

Initiatives

After consolidating the restaurant businesses the founder had expanded under Cook Inoventure, in 2020 he sold 11 restaurant-related companies and redirected resources to Gyomu Super. He changed store openings, which had been franchise-only, to add company-operated stores, and diversified sourcing of imported private-brand products beyond China. Consolidated net sales grew 2.4-fold from ¥228.6 billion in the FY ended October 2015 to ¥551.7 billion in the FY ended October 2025, and operating income 5.9-fold from ¥6.8 billion to ¥39.9 billion.
