Background

He joined Ajinomoto in April 1985 and served as president of Ajinomoto Philippines from July 2011, Executive Officer from June 2013 and president of Ajinomoto do Brasil from June 2015. He advanced to Managing Executive Officer in June 2017 and Executive Officer & Senior Vice President in June 2021, the post he held just before the presidency. Like his predecessor Takaaki Nishii, he was a career employee who reached the top after serving as president of Ajinomoto do Brasil.

Education: Kyoto University, Faculty of Agriculture (1985)

Selection

In April 2022 he succeeded Takaaki Nishii as Representative Executive Officer, President and Chief Executive Officer. In the fiscal year ended March 2022, the year before he took office, consolidated revenue was ¥1,149.3 billion and operating income ¥124.6 billion, the second straight year of profit growth from operating income of ¥48.8 billion in the FY ended March 2020. Rather than a crisis turnaround, the change handed him figures that had already recovered.

Initiatives

In February 2023 he dropped the conventional mid-term management plan that stacks up three years of numbers and switched to "Medium-Term ASV Initiatives," working backward from the company's vision for 2030. He also carried out repeated price revisions, moving to pricing that reflects value. In the FY ended March 2023, his first year, consolidated revenue was ¥1,359.1 billion and operating income ¥148.9 billion, and in the FY ended March 2024, his final year, ¥1,439.2 billion and ¥146.7 billion.
