Background

He joined Johnson & Johnson in April 1988 and served as general manager of the Ethicon product division from May 2002. In April 2005 he moved to Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics as Representative Director and President, also serving as Asia Pacific VP from January 2008. He returned to Johnson & Johnson in October 2010 as Vice President for growth strategy and became its Representative Director and President in January 2012. He became an executive in the medical field and joined McDonald's Japan without any restaurant background.

He joined McDonald's Japan in September 2018 as Senior Executive Officer and CSO, and half a year later, in March 2019, succeeded Sarah L. Casanova as Representative Director, President and CEO. In the fiscal year ended December 2018, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥272.2 billion and operating income ¥25.0 billion, up in both from the previous year. Two affiliates of the U.S. headquarters held 25.26% and 24.73% of the shares in the FY ended December 2014, together about 50%. The change elevated an executive officer brought in from outside to president in half a year.

In the FY ended December 2019, his first year, consolidated net sales were ¥281.7 billion and operating income ¥28.0 billion. In the FY ended December 2020 the company kept growing both, with net sales of ¥288.3 billion and operating income of ¥31.3 billion. In the FY ended December 2023, his last full year in office, net sales were ¥381.9 billion and operating income ¥40.9 billion; over his five years, net sales grew 1.35-fold and operating income 1.46-fold.
