Background
He joined Ezaki Glico in April 2004, and four years later, in June 2008, became Director, Executive Officer and head of the communications division. From April 2012, as head of marketing, he also handled public relations, and in June 2016 became Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer. In October 2017 he moved to head of corporate planning, also serving as chief executive officer of Glico Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. in Singapore and overseeing overseas operations.
Selection
In March 2022 he succeeded Katsuhisa Ezaki as President. Katsuhisa had served as President for about 40 years from June 1982. Etsuro took office 18 years after joining, close to Katsuhisa's 16. In January 2022, two months before taking office, he was given responsibility for sustainability and human resources, so the promotion appears to have come after a broadening of his remit.
Initiatives
In 2024 the company undertook a full migration of its core systems, which halted shipments of chilled products for an extended period. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥303.9 billion in his first fiscal year, ended December 2022, to ¥361.4 billion in FY ended December 2025. Operating profit, however, peaked at ¥18.6 billion in FY ended December 2023 and fell to ¥11.1 billion in FY ended December 2024 and ¥8.7 billion in FY ended December 2025.
