Background
He joined Ezaki Glico in June 1966. Six years later, in November 1972, he became Director and head of the secretariat, and the following November Representative Director and Executive Vice President, gaining representative authority seven years after joining. He then spent eight years and seven months as Executive Vice President before becoming President in June 1982.
Selection
He became Representative Director and President in June 1982. He had risen to Representative Director and Executive Vice President only a year after joining the board in November 1972, and became President in his tenth year as a Director. Given that he served eight years and seven months as Executive Vice President, the timing of the change appears to have been anticipated well in advance.
Initiatives
In October 2017 a chief executive officer was placed at Glico Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, separating oversight of overseas operations from the parent. Consolidated net sales in the fiscal year ended March 2018 were ¥353.4 billion and operating profit ¥20.4 billion. After that year the fiscal year-end was changed from March to December, and the transitional fiscal year ended December 2019 was a nine-month period, with net sales of ¥288.2 billion and operating profit of ¥15.6 billion.
