Background

He joined Yoshinoya in April 1993 and was in charge of business development in the Planning Office from March 2003. He became a Director of group company Hanamaru Co., Ltd. in July 2004 and its Representative Director and President in April 2007, then joined the parent company's board in May 2010. He reached the parent's board after being entrusted with running a business format other than beef bowls.

Selection

In September 2012 he succeeded Shuji Abe as Representative Director and President. In the fiscal year ended February 2012, the year before he took over, consolidated net sales were ¥165.9 billion and ordinary income ¥5.3 billion, just after a two-year return to profit from an ordinary loss of ¥0.5 billion and a net loss of ¥8.9 billion in the FY ended February 2010. He had only two years on the parent's board since May 2010, and his record of leading Hanamaru for five years appears to have weighed in the decision.

Initiatives

He also became a Director of YOSHINOYA AMERICA, INC. in August 2013, a Director of ASIA YOSHINOYA INTERNATIONAL SDN. BHD. in January 2015 and a board member of Yoshinoya (China) Investment Co., Ltd. in June of that year, and became a Director of Kyotaru Co., Ltd. in September 2014. He personally held board seats at overseas subsidiaries and group companies. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥165.9 billion before he took office to ¥205.0 billion in the FY ended February 2025, his final year, but the FY ended February 2021 brought an operating loss of ¥5.3 billion and a net loss of ¥7.5 billion.
