Background

He joined Kyushu Electric Power in April 1986. He rose to Executive Officer and head of the International Office in June 2019 and Senior Executive Officer and head of the Corporate Strategy Division in June 2021, and from June 2022 oversaw the same division as Managing Executive Officer. In June 2023 he moved to Director, Managing Executive Officer and head of the Energy Services Business Headquarters, and in June 2025, 39 years after joining, became Representative Director and President. His career took him in turn through overseas business, company-wide strategy and electricity sales.

Selection

In June 2025 he succeeded Kazuhiro Ikebe as Representative Director and President; his predecessor had served seven years from June 2018. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2025, consolidated revenue was ¥2,356.8 billion, ordinary profit ¥194.7 billion and net income ¥128.8 billion, down from ¥238.2 billion and ¥166.4 billion the previous year but still profitable. The appointment appears to have been one of continuity, putting someone who had served under his predecessor as head of the Corporate Strategy Division and the Energy Services Business Headquarters directly at the head of execution.

Initiatives

In his first year, the fiscal year ended March 2026, consolidated revenue was ¥2,247.2 billion, ordinary profit ¥207.1 billion and net income ¥154.5 billion, lower revenue but higher profit compared with the previous year's ¥2,356.8 billion, ¥194.7 billion and ¥128.8 billion. The management vision with 2035 as its target year and the plan for investment on the scale of ¥1.5 trillion in decarbonization were set under his predecessor and carried over.
