Background
He joined Tokyo Sagawa Kyubin in January 1977. He became Representative Director of Osaka Sagawa Kyubin in November 1986 and of Tokyo Sagawa Kyubin in July 1991, and was appointed Representative Director and President of Sagawa Express in May 1992. He moved to Representative Director and Chairman of that company in June 2002, and with the establishment of the holding company in March 2006 also became President of SG Holdings. His career took him from heading regional companies to President of the core operating company.
Selection
In March 2006 he became the first President of SG Holdings, established as a holding company. While serving as Representative Director and Chairman of Sagawa Express, he concurrently headed the holding company and oversaw the group as a whole. After once stepping down as President, he returned in June 2021 as Representative Director, Chairman and President, and in June 2023 left the presidency to focus on the chairmanship. It was a second stint in which he held the presidency while remaining Chairman.
Initiatives
After his return, the company posted record profits in the fiscal year ended March 2022, with consolidated revenue of ¥1,588.4 billion and operating profit of ¥155.7 billion. In the following FY ended March 2023, revenue fell back to ¥1,434.6 billion and operating profit to ¥135.3 billion, but net income of ¥126.5 billion exceeded the previous year's ¥106.7 billion. In June 2023 he handed the presidency to Hidekazu Matsumoto and remained Representative Director and Chairman.
