Background
He joined Tokyo Sagawa Kyubin in October 1982, became an Executive Officer of Sagawa Express in December 2000 and a Director in June 2006. He also served as Representative Director and President of Sagawa Global Logistics (now SGH Global Japan) from April 2009 and of Sagawa Hikkoshi Center (now SG Moving) from March 2012, and became Representative Director and President of Sagawa Express in February 2013. His roles at the holding company began with a concurrent Executive Officer post in June 2011, and he joined its board in June 2014. He was a career employee who built management experience across the group's operating companies.
Selection
In April 2019 he succeeded Tadashi Machida as President. The promotion came after six years as President of Sagawa Express, and Masahide Motomura took over Sagawa Express that same April. Whereas his predecessor Machida, a Recruit alumnus, was an outsider who came in via the real estate subsidiary, the company, having listed on the First Section in December 2017, this time chose the head of its main operating company. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2019, consolidated revenue was ¥1,118.1 billion and operating profit ¥70.4 billion.

His tenure overlapped with the COVID-19 pandemic, and consolidated revenue rose from ¥1,118.1 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2019 to ¥1,312.1 billion in the FY ended March 2021, with operating profit up from ¥70.4 billion to ¥101.7 billion. While President of Sagawa Express, he had chosen to scale back home delivery business for Amazon Japan to protect delivery unit prices. He stepped down as President in June 2021, and Chairman Eiichi Kuriwada took on the presidency as well.
