Selection

In January 1961, as Shinsuke Asao moved to Chairman, he moved up from Executive Vice President to President. He took over the rebuilding of a shipping industry that had paid no dividends since 1952. In 1963 he also became head of the shipowners' association, joining the consolidation debate from the industry side as well.

Initiatives

In April 1964, in response to the shipping consolidation that merged 95 ocean shipping companies into six groups, the company merged with Mitsubishi Kaiun. Becoming a core company of the consolidation, it expanded its fleet, and in 1965 resumed dividends for the first time in 13 years. In November 1965 he stepped back to Chairman and handed the presidency to Executive Vice President Yoshiya Ariyoshi.
