Background

He graduated from the law faculty of Tokyo Imperial University in 1918, became a Director in 1943 and Managing Director in 1946. He was from Yamanashi Prefecture. While President he also sat on the boards of Nippon Hotel, Fukoku Mutual Life Insurance, Japan Airport Terminal, Nippon Cultural Broadcasting and Japan Airlines, and in 1952 also became an adviser to the Japan Development Bank.

Education: Tokyo Imperial University, Law (now University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law) (1918)

Selection

In 1946 he rose to Managing Director three years after becoming a Director, and moved to President within the same year. It was the year after Japan's defeat, and stock exchange listing and the resumption of dividends both lay ahead. The company listed its shares on the Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya stock exchanges in May 1949, three years after he took office.

Initiatives

In May 1949 the company listed its shares on the Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya stock exchanges. Dividends, however, could not be restored during his tenure. Since the resumption of dividends in 1965 came after 13 years, his entire tenure from 1952 onward was without dividends. In January 1961 he stepped back to Chairman and handed the presidency to Executive Vice President Tadayasu Kodama.
