Background

He joined the Kintetsu group in April 1975. He became an Executive Officer in June 2006 and Managing Director in June 2009. He moved to Kintetsu Department Store as a Director in May 2011 and as Director, Executive Vice President and Executive Officer that July, serving until May 2013. He returned to the parent as Executive Vice President in June 2013 and became President two years later, in April 2015.

Selection

In April 2015 he became President, succeeding Tetsuya Kobayashi. He took office in the month the company moved to a holding company structure and changed its name to Kintetsu Group Holdings. In the fiscal year ended March 2015, the year before he took office, consolidated revenue was ¥1,233.8 billion, operating income ¥56.4 billion and net income ¥27.9 billion. The first President of the holding company was an Executive Vice President who had managed the department store subsidiary rather than the railway itself.

Initiatives

During his tenure consolidated operating income stayed in the ¥60 billion range: ¥64.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2016, ¥64.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2017, ¥64.6 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2018 and ¥67.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2019. Net income peaked at ¥36.0 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2019. In his final year, the fiscal year ended March 2020, revenue fell to ¥1,194.2 billion, operating income to ¥49.4 billion and net income to ¥20.6 billion. Over his five years revenue did not move from around ¥1.2 trillion.
