Background

He joined Kintetsu (now Kintetsu Group Holdings) in April 1968 and became a Director 33 years later, in June 2001. He became Managing Director in June 2003 and Senior Managing Director in June 2005. It took him 39 years from joining to become President. On stepping down as President in April 2015 he became Chairman, then Chairman and Group CEO in June 2020 and Director and Senior Adviser in June 2024.

He became President in June 2007, succeeding Masanori Yamaguchi, two years after becoming Senior Managing Director in June 2005. In the fiscal year ended March 2007, the year before he took office, non-consolidated revenue was ¥917.3 billion, operating income ¥68.7 billion and net income ¥23.2 billion. In the fiscal year ended March 2006, the major shareholders were led by The Master Trust Bank of Japan with 4.22%, followed by trust banks and life insurers, with no single shareholder able to sway management.

His tenure spanned eight fiscal years, from the year ended March 2008 to the year ended March 2015. Non-consolidated revenue was flat, from ¥925.3 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2008 to ¥960.0 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2011, and net income fell to ¥3.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2010. On a consolidated basis, revenue rose from ¥932.2 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2013 to ¥1,233.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2015, and operating income from ¥47.5 billion to ¥56.4 billion. In April 2015, the month he stepped down, Kintetsu moved to a pure holding company structure and changed its name to Kintetsu Group Holdings.
