Background
He joined Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank in April 1972 and became an Executive Officer in June 2000 and Managing Executive Officer in April 2001. He became Managing Director of Mizuho Corporate Bank in March 2003 and its Director and Deputy President in April 2004, spending 33 years in banking. He moved to Seibu in February 2005 as Special Adviser to Seibu Railway, and became President three months later.

In May 2005 he became Representative Director and President of Seibu Railway. Three months earlier, in February 2005, he had moved to Seibu as Special Adviser. The appointment appears to have brought in the deputy president of the main bank to lead the turnaround. When the holding company Seibu Holdings was set up in February 2006, he served as its first President.
Initiatives
In 2014 he listed the company's shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Consolidated revenue rose from ¥438.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2012 to ¥565.9 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2019, and net income from ¥8.4 billion to ¥45.5 billion. In the fiscal year ended March 2021, amid the pandemic, revenue fell to ¥337.1 billion with an operating loss of ¥51.6 billion and a net loss of ¥72.3 billion, and in April 2023 he handed the presidency to Ryuichiro Nishiyama. His tenure lasted 18 years.
