Background
After joining Mitsubishi Goshi Kaisha he transferred to Mitsubishi Estate in 1953. He became President in 1980, succeeding Otokazu Nakata, and held the post for seven years until retiring to the position of senior adviser in 1987. 1953, the year he transferred, was the year Mitsubishi Estate was re-formed by merging the three companies into which it had been split during the zaibatsu dissolution. As of March 1980, the year he took office, its major shareholders were Meiji Life Insurance with 3.86%, Tokio Marine and Fire Insurance with 3.80% and Mitsubishi Bank with 3.79%.
Selection
His predecessor Otokazu Nakata served as President for 11 years from 1969 to 1980 before moving to Chairman. When Tatsuji Ito took office, Marunouchi was filled with buildings uniformly capped at 31 meters, and the original Marunouchi Building was 57 years old. The promotion of a career employee from the sales side appears to have been a choice to carry on running the leasing business.
