Background
He joined Royal in June 1982. He gained experience while serving as an officer of operating companies, becoming Director and General Manager of Administration at R&K Food Service (now Royal Food Service) in December 2005 and Director and Executive Vice President of Royal Host in January 2011. At the parent he served as sales promotion officer in the Sales Promotion Department of the Business Management Division from November 2008 and Deputy Head of the Administration Division from April 2010, before becoming a Director in March 2011.
Selection
In March 2016 he succeeded Tadao Kikuchi as Representative Director, President and COO. His title on taking office was COO, and he did not add the CEO role until three years later, in March 2019. In the year ended December 2015, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥127.2 billion and operating profit ¥4.9 billion, with sales up from ¥124.9 billion the year before. It was a change in which only execution was entrusted to him while his predecessor kept the chief executive role.
Initiatives
After he took office, sales rose for four straight years through the year ended December 2019, with consolidated net sales growing from ¥127.2 billion to ¥136.5 billion. In the year ended December 2020 sales plunged by more than 40% to ¥80.3 billion, with an operating loss of ¥19.3 billion and a net loss of ¥27.5 billion. In May 2020 he also became head of the Structural Reform Promotion Division, and in 2021 he strengthened capital through a capital and business alliance with Sojitz and an issue of preferred shares allotted to four main lending banks.
