Background

He joined Namco in April 1978 and became General Manager of EM Development in August 1991. In June 1995 he became a Director in charge of the Second Development Division while heading EM Development and VS Development, and in June 1999, as Managing Director, oversaw research, development and production. Having come up through development, he became Representative Director and Executive Vice President overseeing the content business at Namco in April 2005. In April 2006, after the business integration with Bandai, he became Representative Director and President of the game company Namco Bandai Games, and in June of that year also a Director of the holding company.

In April 2009 he succeeded Takeo Takasu as Representative Director and President. He had been Representative Director and President of the game company Namco Bandai Games since April 2006 and kept that post after becoming President of the holding company until he moved to its Chairman in April 2012. In the fiscal year ended March 2009, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥426.3 billion and operating income ¥22.3 billion, down from ¥459.1 billion and ¥42.2 billion in the FY ended March 2007.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended March 2010, his first year, consolidated net sales fell to ¥378.5 billion and operating income to ¥1.9 billion, and the company posted a net loss of ¥29.9 billion. He then pressed ahead with reorganizing the operating companies, establishing Namco Bandai Online in October 2009, Namco Bandai Live Creative in April 2010 and the development company Namco Bandai Studios in April 2012. In the FY ended March 2015, his last year, net sales recovered to ¥565.4 billion, operating income to ¥56.3 billion and net income to ¥37.5 billion.
