Born in April 1959, he began working at Curry House CoCo Ichibanya in February 1980 at the age of 20. He joined Ichibanya in July 1982, became head of the Central Japan Division in June 1990 and Director and head of the National Management Division in January 1992. He served as Director and head of the Store Operations Division from December 1996 and Senior Managing Director and head of the Store Operations Division from June 1998, and became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2000.

Education: Aichi Prefectural Higashiura High School (1978)

Selection

Toshiya Hamashima became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2000, holding representative authority second only to the President. Ichibanya had just registered its shares over the counter in February 2000, and Naomi Munetsugu, who founded Curry House CoCo Ichibanya in 1978 and had been Representative Director and President since June 1998, moved to Chairman in June 2002. Hamashima became Representative Director, President and head of the Business Division in the same month of June 2002. Twenty-four years after the founding, the presidency passed to a career employee who had worked in the restaurants since two years after the first one opened.

Initiatives

Ichibanya listed on the Second Sections of the Tokyo and Nagoya stock exchanges in March 2004 and moved to the First Sections of both exchanges in May 2005. Starting with its first store in China in September 2004, it expanded to Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and Singapore, and in December 2004 reached 1,000 stores in Japan and overseas combined. In 2015 the founding family sold its entire 23.17% stake to House Foods Group, and Ichibanya became a subsidiary of that company in December that year.
