Background

He joined Hiroshima City Hotel in April 1987 and moved to Ichibanya in January 1992. He handled the overseas store rollout as General Manager of the Overseas Business Department from June 2006 and head of the Overseas Business Division from June 2013. He rose to Director and head of the Overseas Business Division in August 2013 and Managing Director and head of the Overseas Business Division in June 2015, and became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in March 2018. In the 27 years from his move to Ichibanya to becoming President, his posts were almost entirely in the overseas business.

Selection

In March 2019 he succeeded Toshiya Hamashima as Representative Director and President. In the fiscal year ended February 2019, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥50.2 billion and operating income ¥4.4 billion, higher sales but lower profit than the ¥49.5 billion and ¥4.7 billion of the year before. Ichibanya is under House Foods Group, which held 51.01% of the shares as of the FY ended February 2026. The change elevated the head of the overseas business the year after he became Executive Vice President.

Initiatives

As President he oversaw the New Business Development Division, and from May 2023 also took charge of the Overseas Business Department. In the fiscal year ended February 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, net sales fell to ¥44.2 billion and operating income to ¥2.6 billion, but in the FY ended February 2024 net sales of ¥55.1 billion and operating income of ¥4.7 billion exceeded the ¥50.2 billion and ¥4.4 billion of the year before he took office. In the FY ended February 2026 net sales were ¥65.5 billion and operating income ¥4.7 billion, and in March that year, as head of national management, he personally took charge of the Marketing and Merchandise divisions as well.
