Background
He joined Nissan Mexicana in October 2003. He served as marketing director of Nissan Motor Thailand from July 2008 and VP of Nissan International from April 2014, then moved to Nissan Motor itself as a program director in April 2016. In April 2024 he oversaw product planning as Chief Planning Officer. It was 21 years from joining to becoming President, nine of them at the parent.
Selection
In April 2025 he succeeded Makoto Uchida as Representative Executive Officer, President and CEO. In the fiscal year ended March 2025, his predecessor's final year, net sales were ¥12,633.2 billion, operating income ¥69.8 billion and the net loss ¥670.8 billion. The shareholder structure had also changed: under the new alliance agreement with Renault in July 2023, Renault's stake fell from 43.4% to around 15%, and the top major shareholders for FY ended March 2026 were Natixis with 18.7% and Renault with 17.1%. The officer who had overseen product planning under his predecessor took the top post in the midst of losses.
Initiatives
Right after taking office he announced the restructuring plan "Re:Nissan," consolidating seven vehicle plants and cutting around 20,000 jobs. In the fiscal year ended March 2026 net sales were ¥12,007.9 billion, operating income ¥58.0 billion and the net loss ¥533.1 billion, a second straight year of net losses. He has been in office just over a year, and the outcome of the plan has yet to show up in the numbers.
