Background

He joined Fanuc in April 1993, became Senior Managing Director in June 2008, Director and Executive Vice President in February 2012, and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in October 2013. October 2013 was when Seiuemon Inaba stepped down from his key head office posts and subsidiary directorships, and the company moved to a structure in which three Executive Vice Presidents held representative authority. From 2015 he handled dialogue with institutional investors through the SR department.

Selection

In April 2016 the company announced that President Yoshiharu Inaba would become Chairman and CEO and Yamaguchi President and COO, producing the first president from outside the Inaba family in 13 years. In the fiscal year ended March 2016, the year before, consolidated net sales were ¥623.4 billion and operating income ¥215.6 billion, down from ¥729.7 billion and ¥297.8 billion the previous year. For FY ended March 2017, operating income was expected to be nearly halved by the disappearance of smartphone-driven demand and the slowdown in China's economy. He became President and CEO in April 2019.

Initiatives

In 2016 the company began selling FIELD system, a platform for factory IoT, built around edge computing that processes operating data on servers inside the factory rather than in the cloud. In April that year it announced a development plan with Cisco Systems, Rockwell Automation and Preferred Networks, and the NTT Group joined in July. In December 2019 it unveiled a white collaborative robot that needs no safety fence, and at a December 2025 press conference it declared an opening-up of its robots by adding support for ROS 2 and Python.
