Background

A career employee who joined Keyence in April 1987, he rose to Director serving concurrently as General Manager of Business Promotion and of the MECT Division. He joined the board in June 2009 and became President a year and a half later. Among major shareholders for the fiscal year ended March 2010, T.T held 17.87% and Takemitsu Takizaki 7.71%; he himself was not in the top ten. He had never worked elsewhere and spent 23 years at the company from joining to becoming President.

Selection

In December 2010 he succeeded Michio Sasaki as Representative Director and President, a year and a half after joining the board. In the fiscal year ended March 2010, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥136.1 billion and operating income ¥55.7 billion, with sales down more than 30% from ¥200.6 billion in FY ended March 2008. A manager from the business divisions was given the role of rebuilding orders that had shrunk in the financial crisis.

Initiatives

Over his nine years in office consolidated net sales grew from ¥136.1 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2010 to ¥587.0 billion in FY ended March 2019, and operating income from ¥55.7 billion to ¥317.9 billion. In FY ended March 2014 sales rose 60%, from ¥165.8 billion the previous year to ¥265.0 billion, and reached ¥526.8 billion in FY ended March 2018. The operating margin hit 54% in FY ended March 2019. He expanded the overseas sales network, and during this period overseas sales came to exceed domestic sales.
