Background
He joined Keyence in March 1982 and became Director and General Manager of the APSULT Division in June 1999. In December 2000 he succeeded founder Takemitsu Takizaki as Representative Director and President. In the annual securities report for the fiscal year ended March 2011, Takizaki held 4,262,380 shares while Sasaki held 6,485, so he served as President without a shareholding to back him.
Selection
Founder Takemitsu Takizaki had been President for 26 years since establishing Lead Electric in May 1974, and became Representative Director and Chairman in December 2000. That same month Sasaki became Representative Director and President, and Keyence entered its first era with a president other than the founder. Takizaki retained representative authority as Chairman and was still Representative Director and Chairman in the annual securities report for the fiscal year ended March 2011.
Initiatives
He expanded the company's footprint during his tenure, setting up the Chinese subsidiary KEYENCE (CHINA) CO.,LTD. in September 2001, a logistics center in Takatsuki, Osaka Prefecture in November 2007, and a Quality Lab in Osaka City in July 2009. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥93.6 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2003 to ¥200.6 billion in FY ended March 2008, when operating income of ¥102.4 billion equaled 51% of sales. After the financial crisis, FY ended March 2010 saw sales fall to ¥136.1 billion and operating income to ¥55.7 billion.
