Background

He joined JR Central in April 1995, moved to MKS Partners in August 2001 as a principal and became a partner in August 2004. He became a managing director at Merrill Lynch Japan Securities in October 2007 and at the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan in September 2009. He joined Renesas in October 2013 as Director, Managing Executive Officer and CFO, entering management from investment and finance. His former employer, the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, was then Renesas's largest shareholder, holding 69.15% of its shares in the fiscal year ended March 2015.

Selection

In July 2019 he succeeded Bunsei Kure as Representative Director, President and CEO, a promotion after six years as CFO. In the fiscal year ended December 2019, his first year, consolidated net sales were ¥718.2 billion, operating income ¥6.3 billion and the net loss ¥6.3 billion, with operating income down from ¥68.2 billion the previous year. In March 2024 his title changed to Representative Executive Officer, President and CEO.

Initiatives

Following the acquisition of IDT of the US completed in March 2019, he acquired Dialog Semiconductor of the UK in 2021 and Altium of the US in 2024, reshaping a business mix that had been weighted toward automotive. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥718.2 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2019 to ¥1,500.8 billion in the FY ended December 2022, and operating income from ¥6.3 billion to ¥424.2 billion. In the FY ended December 2025 net sales were ¥1,321.2 billion and operating income ¥201.2 billion, with a net loss of ¥51.7 billion.
